State 11-12 Tournament: National's down Elliot Avenue

South Portland National (2-0) had to wait a day because of rain to get the game played, but wasted no time in overpowering Elliot Avenue of Lewiston (0-1) in action Monday at The Thomaston Little League Field.

Rockland and Kennebunk/Kennebunkport managed to get one full inning of their game played before Mother Nature took over with thunder and lightening and heavy rain. That game was suspended in the top of the first and will be resumed at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

South Portland 10, Lewiston 3 … The bats got hot in a hurry for the National's with three home runs leading the way at the plate while Felix Del Vecchio and Christopher Foley took care of business on the mound.

Del Vecchio (1-0) and Foley pitched six innings for South Portland allowing three runs, one earned run, on five hits and five walks while striking out 13.

Nick Belanger (0-1), Matt Poulin and Caleb Dostie took the mound for Lewiston allowing 10 runs, seven earned, on nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Matt Beecher paced the National's at the plate (home run, double, single, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Del Vecchio (home run, single, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Aidan Mckee (home run, 2 runs, RBI), Jacob Brown (single, run), Chris Miller (single, run, 2 RBIs), Eric Dennison (single, run), Foley (run) and Ryan Ruhlin (run).

For Lewiston, Kyle Lemelin (double, single), Matt Poulin (single, run), Dixon Dilodoviko (single), Ben Howell (single), Dostie (run) and Brian Bonenfant (run).

South Portland will play the winner of the Rockland/Kennebunk game Wednesday, July 29 while Lewiston will play Bangor East at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 28.
