Rockland 11-12s overpower Waldoboro in playoff action

The Rockland District 2, 11-12 softball All-Stars, used good hitting, fielding, pitching and base running to overpower the visiting Waldoboro District 2 All-Stars Thursday 10-3 in Rockland as the playoffs continue towards a district championship.

Next up for Rockland will be July 9 in Waldoboro when they face off against Camden-Rockport whom defeated Lincoln County June 30. Waldoboro and Lincoln County will meet Monday July 6 in Rockland in an elimination game.

Chelsea Williams pitched a complete game for Rockland allowing three runs on six hits and eight walks while striking out five.

Jewel Prior went the distance for Waldoboro allowing 10 runs on nine hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

Sarah Penney led the hitting for Rockland (2 singles, 2 runs, RBI), Brittany Rytky (single, run, RBI), Ashley Davis-Oakes (2 singles, run), Tracie Webster (single, run, 2 RBIs), Jordan Carpenter (single, run), Emma Provost (single, run), Eliza Davidson (triple, 3 RBIs), Maris Rosa (run, RBI) and Ashley Gardiner and Williams (run each). Other members of the Rockland team are, Jacquelyn Thorbjornson, Alexandra Chase, Autumn Keene, and Alexandra Nibby.

For Waldoboro, Laura Dyer (2 singles), Erika Bramhall (2 singles, run), Vanessa Rancourt (single, run, RBI), Aiden Skov (single), Prior (3 walks, run), Kasandra Mank and Hope Lash (RBI each). Other members of the Waldoboro team are, Lei_Ann Sproul, Cierra Miller, Jewel Dorian and Hannah Thibault.

Rockland scored six runs in the second, two in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth. Waldoboro scored all their runs in the fifth.

Rockland mercy's Waldoboro as 9-10 softball playoffs begin

The District II Little League playoffs for 9-10 year old softball got underway Wednesday in Waldoboro with Rockland downing Waldoboro 15-5 in a five inning mercy rule game.

Ari Curtis pitched the complete game win for Rockland allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two.

Shelbe Lane pitched for Waldoboro allowing 15 runs on 14 hits and six walks while striking out two.

Rockland got offensive production up and down line up. Curtis (2 hits, 2 runs), Sydney Hall (hit, 3 runs), Ireland Leblanc 2 hits, 3 runs), Brianna Dugan (2 hits, 2 runs), Krisandra McNichol (hit, run), Alexis Mazurek (2 hits, run), Emily Hutchinson (hit, run), Olivia Staples (hit, 2 runs), Nina Lavigne (hit) and Jennifer Carter (hit).

For Waldoboro, Mikayla Brazier (2 hits, run), Stephanie Hill (hit), Megan Sykes (hit, run), Cassie Wadsworth, Lane and Whitney Dow (run each).

Rockland will take on Lincoln County July 7 in Nobleboro while Waldoboro will face the loser of that game in an elimination game at Warren July 9.

Houlton cruises past Hampden in 9-10 All-Stars tourney

Wednesday night in Holden, Houlton jumped out to a 6-0 first inning lead and never looked back as they defeated Hampden 10-6 in a District 3 All-Stars 9-10 tournament game at the Rod McPherson Field.

Houlton, after the six run first inning, added three more runs in the second to take a 9-1 lead after two innings. Hampden rallied for five runs in the fourth inning to close the gap to 9-6, but Houlton would add one more run in the bottom half of the fourth and shut down the Hampden offense the rest of the way for the win.

Abe Loram led Houlton with a double and two singles. Billy Phillips, Logan Ellis, Nate Mooers, and Matt Tuttle all added two singles each. Nick Cowperthwaite chipped with a single. Houlton moves on in the winners bracket to face Lincoln on Wednesday, July 8 at 5:30 p.m.

Casey Sudbeck had two singles and Jackson Gilmore a triple to lead Hampden at the plate. Ben Huston, Andrew Gendreau, and Kohl Ross each added a single. Hampden will next face Orono-Veazie in the losers bracket on Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m.

C-R 11-12s get playoff opening win over Bath

The Little League playoffs in District II are in full swing with playoffs games happening most every night weather permitting.

Wednesday night Bath traveled to Rockport Recreation for an 11-12 year-old baseball game with Camden-Rockport coming out on top 7-3.

Daulton Wickendon threw a complete game for C-R allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Trenton Moore pitched five innings in the loss for Bath allowing seven runs on nine hits and no walks whit four strikeouts.

Connor Graffam set the pace for C-R at the plate (home run, double single, 2 runs, 5 RBIs), Matt Crockett (triple, double, single, 3 runs), Wickenden (2 single, two runs) and Cailean Schecter (single).

For Bath,Ethan Wingloss (single,run), Moore (double, run), Zach Holbrook (single, run), Dakota Jacobs, Torin Muccino (single each).

Camden Rockport will play again on July 13 when they face off against the winner of Game 4, Waldoboro and Lincoln County scheduled for July 6 in Warren. Bath will play the loser of game 4 in an elimination game July 9 at Bath.

Seven run inning propels Lincoln to win over Orono-Veazie

Wednesday afternoon at the Rod McPherson Field in Holden, home of the Holbrook Little League and host field for the District 3 All-Stars 9-10 baseball tournament, Lincoln scored seven runs in the fifth inning to break open a 3-2 game and defeated Orono-Veazie 10-2.

Lincoln managed just three hits in the game, but took advantage of base on balls, O-V errors, wild pitches and passed balls to put runs on the board, while playing outstanding defense in the field.

Carter Ward had a double and single and Cameron Fournier added a double for the Lincoln hits. Fournier was the winning pitcher, and he combined with Thompson to toss a 1-hitter in the game. Lincoln moves on in the winners bracket to Wednesday, July 8 at 5:30 p.m. to play Houlton.

Dante Voyou had a single for the lone Orono-Veazie hit. O-V will face Hampden on Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m.
